I've always wanted to make a game and since the LLM boom started back in 2022, I knew there was something fun that could be built with them. I just needed the right idea. One day I was playing with ChatGPT and asked it to generate a real-sounding startup and the result was eerily good.
I enjoy playing daily games like Wordle and Connections and figured that a tech-centric version of those games would be possible with AI, and I liked the idea of "trying to figure out if a company is real or not." To me, this game is kind of like an evolution of those fun single-serving websites from a prior era of the web.
We built the game with the Crunchbase API, which gave us real company data, and they've been a great partner in thinking about the evolution of this game. We used ChatGPT for generating the fake companies, Supabase for our backend, and Vercel for our frontend, with some help from Copilot for writing some of the code.
Working with Phenry and Dan, we figured out the right UX for this kind of gameplay and had a lot of fun tweaking the prompt and data to get a balance that felt "just right." Because of the tech setup, the game requires minimal intrusion, so it's a game we get to play ourselves. My favorite part is when one of the fake prompts is a fun idea for a business.
VC firms don't tend to build things all that often, but we did this for two reasons. 1) We wanted to better understand what it’s like to build with latest tools founders are using for their startups 2) We are really excited about the intersection of AI and gaming, from experiences to infrastructure.
