Elon Musk Ventures into Gaming

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, is setting his sights on a new venture: developing video games. Recently, he announced plans to create a game studio through his startup xAI, which is also working on the Grok chatbot and other AI tools.

Musk tweeted, "Too many game studios...are owned by massive corporations. xAI is going to start an AI game studio to make games great again!" This statement reflects his passion for gaming, particularly his enjoyment of Diablo IV.

A Political Undertone

Musk's foray into gaming appears to intertwine with his political views. His tweet followed a post from Billy Markus, co-creator of Dogecoin, who criticized the current state of video games for being overly ideological. Markus expressed frustration with the industry, stating, "Gamers have always rejected dumb manipulative BS and can tell when someone is an outsider poser."

Musk also criticized Microsoft's Xbox team for their diversity and inclusion efforts, questioning, "Can they just make good games and skip the woke lecture?? Wtf."

Controversial Perspectives

Days prior, Musk stated that having pronouns in fantasy games is "utterly unacceptable," referencing an upcoming Xbox game that allows players to choose their character's gender. This suggests that Musk's game studio may reflect his personal beliefs and cultural commentary, similar to how he uses X/Twitter to influence discussions in the U.S. culture wars.

The Challenge Ahead

However, developing a major video game is a daunting task. Typically, a large game studio requires years and hundreds of millions of dollars to create a AAA title. Yet, advancements in generative AI might streamline this process. Recently, Netflix also announced plans to leverage generative AI for game development.

Stay tuned as Musk embarks on this ambitious journey in the gaming industry!
